Peter Blichfeldt (1831-1884) was born April 2, 1831 in Norway.
Sometime after he immigrated to the U.S., he married Carrie Anderson
(1853-1943). She was born in August of 1853 in Copenhagen, Denmark and
immigrated in 1867. She appears in the 1930 census living with Hugh and
Elizabeth Magee. She died April 22, 1943 in Angelica, WI. She may have
been the daughter of Lars P. Anderson, born Feb. 26, 1820 and died
March 22, 1902. All three are buried in Elm Grove Cemetery near Laney,
Shawano Co., WI. Peter Blichfeldt worked as a clerk in a dry goods store in Oconto, Oconto Co., WI in 1880.
In the 1880 census, there is a Christian Blichfeldt living very close
to where Carrie later lived in Maple Grove. He is born in Norway about
1844, and I think it likely he was Peter’s brother.
Sometime between 1910 and 1920, Carrie married Christoffer Swenson, who
was deceased by the 1920 census. He was born about 1847 in Norway and
was also the father of Johnie Swenson, who married Elizabeth Sechrest,
one of the Two Rivers, WI, Magees. His granddaughter Luller Swenson was
living with them in 1910. She was born about 1897. Carrie lived in
Maple Grove, Shawano Co., WI from at least 1900-1920.
Below is the obituary for Carrie Swenson from the April 29, 1943 Shawano County Journal. Mrs. Carrie Swendsen passes away Thursday
Death claimed Mrs. Carrie Swendsen, 90; Thursday at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Hugh Magee, Sr., in the town of Angelica, where she had
made her home for the past several years. She was
born in August, 1853 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1867 the family came to
Angelica and settled near the town which is now Denmark, Wis. After her
marriage she lived in Green Bay and Oconto, residing at Laney most of
the time. She was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church in the town
of Lessor and a member of the Ladies Aid of the Methodist church at
Angelica. She leaves to survive, one daughter,
Mrs. Magee, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one
sister, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen of Denmark. Last
rites were conducted Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the Magee home and
at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church at Angelica.
Officiating was the Rev. Thomas F. Tippler of Appleton. Burial was made
in the Angelica Pleasant Hill cemetery. The Wendt Funeral Home of Bonduel was in charge of the arrangements.
Carrie gave birth to eight children, but only two reached adulthood. Among the children are Elizabeth Blichfeldt, Josephine Blichfeldt, Petra Blichfeldt and Carlin Blichfeldt.
Petra is listed as Peter in the 1880 census but I believe this is a
mistake. Carlin is listed as a male in the same census. Petra and
Elizabeth are the two who lived to be adults.
Other children of Peter Blichfeldt and Carrie Anderson 2. Josephine Blichfeldt was born about 1876 in Wisconsin. 2.
Petra Blichfeldt was born in December of 1879 in Wisconsin. She died in
1903 in Wisconsin. She married Charlie Waterman about 1895. She is
usually found in records as Petea, but her gravestone says Petra. I
have been told that Charlie Waterman was in prison, and I have been
unable to find him in records.
3. Lulu Waterman was born in January of 1897 in Wisconsin. She married
John Staszak, who was born about 1895 in Wisconsin. They lived in
Cudahy, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin in 1920 census. Lulu died before 1930.
From a Shawano County paper, March 11, 1920: Mr. and Mrs. John Staszak of Cudahy have moved to Mrs. Svendsen’s farm.
4. Malvin N.
Staszak was born about 1917 in Wisconsin.
