From the Shawano County Journal, Thursday, Sept. 1, 1949: Mrs. E. Giessel dies on Sunday; funeral services held here
Mrs. E. E. Giessel, the former Catherine Gibbs, passed away at the
Shawano Municipal hospital Sunday afternoon. Death was attributed to a
heart ailment with which she had been ill for six weeks.
Mrs. Giessel was born July 1, 1900 in Shawano. She was the daughter of
William Gibbs and the late Mrs. Gibbs. She completed her high school
work in Shawano, graduating in 1922, and was graduated from Ripon
college in 1926. In January 1927 she was married
to Ethan Giessel. They resided in Clintonville for fourteen years and
at Appleton two years before returning to Shawano. They have been
making their home at Shawano Lake for the past two years.
Survivors are her husband and three children; two sons, Dick, of
Milwaukee, and Don, at home; and a daughter, Gannett, Mrs. M. B. Rowe
of New Jersey. She also leaves her father, and a sister, Miss Margaret
Gibbs, of Shawano. Funeral services were
conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Karth Funeral Home. The Rev.
Garth G. Gee officiated and burial was in Woodlawn cemetery. Acting as
pallbearers were Charles Vande Zande, W. F. Boese, Maynard Wussow,
Silas Darling, L. C. Tonne and Kermit Maas.
