Elwood C. Magee, age 84, of Shawano, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007.
Elwood was born on May 26, 1922, in Gillett, the son of the late Hugh and Irene (Thompson) Magee. He grew up in the Angelica area and on Feb. 26, 1944, he was united in marriage to Elva Muck. The past 56 years he resided in Shawano. Elwood was very active in the sport of harness racing and received many awards: Horse Person of the Year and was inducted into the Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame. He enjoyed deer hunting, bowling, traveling and family get-togethers. Elwood was a member of United Methodist Church in Shawano, the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association, the Illinois Harness Horse Association, and Rest Haven Cemetery Association. He was also a former volunteer firefighter and a school bus driver.
He was preceded in death by: a brother, Curtis Magee; and a grandson, Ryan Magee.
Elwood is survived by: his wife, Elva; two daughters, Sally (Dave) Zander of Shawano, and Patti (Jeff) Hitzler of Green Bay; four sons, Gary (Donna) Magee of Shawano, Dale (Carol) Magee of Red River, Randy (Evelyn) Magee of Iron River, Wis., Brian (Nancy) Magee of Shawano; a sister, Joyce Schneider of Shawano; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the United Methodist Church in Shawano with the Rev. Jeff Uhler officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 4 until 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. at the church until the time of the service.
