From the Shawano Evening Leader, Aug. 31, 1999: John C. Black John C. Black, age 81, of 507 S. Franklin St., Shawano, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Shawano. He
was born Nov. 5, 1917, the son of the late Charles M. and Ann (Foley)
Black. John was a member of the county and state bar associations and
practiced law for over 50 years in Shawano before retiring in 1997. He
was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belonged to
the Knights of Columbus. He was very active throughout the Shawano
community. He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Jean; seven children,
John C. Black Jr., Mary Ann (Thomas) Callum, Margaret LaFond, Alice
Black, Charles (Mary) Black, Joseph Black, and Timothy Black; three
grandchildren, Carrie and Christopher LaFond and Lydia Ann Black.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church with Father Len Evers officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on
Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swedberg Funeral Home, Shawano,
and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A
parish wake service will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial funds have been established for Sacred Heart Parish Community
and the Mayo Clinic Research Foundation.
