Mrs. Lutsey Dies; Funeral Monday
New London – Mrs. Elwood Lutsey,
the former Sophia Blonger, 91, was pronounced dead on arrival
in an ambulance at New London Community Hospital at 11:45 p.m.
Thursday.
Mrs. Lutsey had lived for the past six
and one-half years in Weyauwega at the home of Mr. And Mrs.
Alvin Anklam. She owned and operated the Elwood Hotel until her
retirement seven years ago.
Born June 19, 1866 in Eldorado, she
married Elwood “Capt.” Lutsey, who was the first
white child born in New London, and acquired the
captain’s title through his operation of the steamboat
Laura May between Oshkosh and New London in an earlier day. He
built the Elwood Hotel 66 years ago and ran it with Mrs. Lutsey
until his death a number of years ago.
Mrs. Lutsey was a member of the First
Congregational Church where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m.
Monday, with the Rev. Alfred C. Davis in charge. Friends may
call at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today.
There are no immediate survivors.
