The following is from a Shawano newspaper from Nov. 22 1934: William Dowling is honored for ability as St. Mary student
Mr. and Mrs. August Anderson have received a congratulatory letter on
the work of their grandson William Dowling who is a student at St.
Mary’s college of Winona, Minnesota. We print the letter in full:
“It is a genuine pleasure to inform you that your son, William, has won
a place on the honor roll at St. Mary’s for the mid-semester.
This is an envied distinction in the college as there are only nine
young men listed with honor grades. It shows that William is among the
select few who are standouts for intelligence and studiousness. William
obtained 93 honor points out of a possible 105, thus having on eof the
highest places on the honor roll. I compliment
William and congratulate you on this fine achievement, and trust at the
semester he will again give you reason to be proud of his scholastic
standing. Very sincerely yours, Brother Lawrence, Dean.”
