From the Jan. 11, 1963 Shawano Evening Leader: William Gibbs rites Saturday
Funeral services for William R. Gibbs, 93, 105 So. Smalley St. who died
Thursday at his home, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Karth
Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Wellstone will officiate and burial will
be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Karth Funeral Home
after 3 p.m. today. Mr. Gibbs was born Sept. 21,
1869 in Shawano, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Gibbs. His
father was one of the first managers of the Upham and Russell Company.
Gibbs worked as a clerk at the store and also was a sealer at the
Shawano Lumber Co. In later years he worked as a city employee.
Gibbs was married to the former Margaret Magee on June 18, 1899 at
Oshkosh. She preceded him in death in 1946. Mr. Gibbs was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include
a daughter Margaret and a sister Harriet, both of Shawano. Three
children preceded him in death. There are three grandchildren and nine
great grandchildren.
